Welcome to Lion’s Guesthouse and The Buck & Lion Restaurant

    Lion's Guesthouse

    Our Story

The story of Lion’s Guesthouse started in 1996 when it was established by Mr and Mrs van Leeuwen. The name “Lion’s Guesthouse” was inspired by the Dutch word “Leeuw”, meaning Lion.

In 2009, Cornel and Els Botha took over the business from Mr van Leeuwen. They decided to keep the name “Lion’s Guesthouse” as it was already a well-established business with a trusted reputation in Groblersdal.

In 2015, The Buck & Lion Restaurant was opened as an additional service for our guesthouse guests as well as the public, creating a place where people could enjoy good food, great company, and a warm atmosphere.

The name “The Buck & Lion” represents the South African and Belgian owners. “The Buck” was inspired by the Springbok, South Africa’s national animal, representing Cornel and South African roots of the restaurant. “The Lion” was inspired by the Flemish Lion, the regional flag of the area where Els comes from in Belgium.
